Making the move from condo to spacious residence
The owners of this residence decided to move from their Kakaako condo into a single family residence. Their child was at the age of soccer games and sleepovers, and they realized that the space of a full-sized home was necessary. Although the property is substantial in size, the original home was small with only one bedroom and bathroom. After visiting various builders, the couple decided on Graham Builders because of their reputation, process and, as the wife said, “They are so darned nice! I knew that I’d feel comfortable working with this team.”
The couple shared their vision with their architectural designer. They dreamed of a home that would allow for large gatherings where the children had their space and the adults had another. The well-being of the youngsters was important, so they envisioned separate yet close entertainment “zones” that were within view of one another.
Their visions were achieved with this Graham Builders remodel and addition. The original cottage was gutted and transformed into the residence’s kitchen and living area. The original ramp along the side of the house was replaced with an immense covered lanai that overlooks the Hayden mango tree and colossal yard. Sliding glass doors and shutters slide open, allowing the homeowners to expand the indoor great room to nearly double its size.
Natural light floods the living spaces through the sliding doors, multiple windows and skylights. Exposed timber trusses create an interesting focus and adds additional height to the space. Original cabinetry and plumbing in the kitchen were replaced and an island with a custom-built was added. Bedrooms, baths and a laundry room were added to the side of the living space. The overall cohesiveness of the overhauled residence is remarkable!
