Hawaii’s diversity is evident in our food, music and even the way we live. There are many ways our families share their roofs. Here are a few of the most common living styles we share here in paradise.
- Single family: Traditional, “mainland” style living where a couple or a couple and their children live.
- Multi-generational family: Three or more generations of the same family living under one roof. Most common are the grandparent, adult children and young grandchildren.
- Extended family: Living style composed of adult relatives or siblings and their families living under one roof.
- Aging-in-place: Homes designed to allow residents of all ages and abilities to remain at home for as long as possible. This plan might be for a single person, a couple, as part of a multi-generational family or extended family.
