“It felt like a true partnership!”

When the owners of this property decided to hire Graham Builders to rebuild their 1958 single-wall home, they were assigned a dedicated Graham Builders architectural designer and coordinator.

“It felt like a true partnership with our architectural designer,” recalls the wife. “She was available at every turn to bounce ideas off of — she truly understood my vision!” “It was so easy to work with Graham Builders.”

“Our designer checked for things like wind direction and the sun/shade paths,” she recounts. The homeowners are certain that this careful study of their property is why their new residence is comfortable in all weather conditions. “Once you open the windows, the beautiful cross breeze keeps us cool no matter what room you are in.”

The comfortable alliance continued with the construction manager and crew. This was a big surprise. For example, my husband and I wondered why Graham Builders’ master carpenter was working on our island and stair bannisters with such focus. It looked great the way it already was. What we didn’t realize is that he was customizing the bannisters, so that it would match the details of the island. And then he put the same focus on our lanai rails and then our window reading bench. It is SO nice how everything MATCHES!  The quality and craftsmanship of their finish carpenters blew our minds!

The close collaboration  produced a home that perfectly suits her family’s lifestyle. “The shared space flows seamlessly from the kitchen through the dining area and living room to the lanai. The natural light is wonderful, too!”

The wife’s favorite features include the custom designed kitchen island, farmhouse sink, the spacious window seat/reading nook, and the French doors that lead to the lanai.

“We wanted a forever home,” she says. “We looked at items like cabinets as investment pieces. I’m glad we did, because I can see the quality throughout my home.

“It’s funny,” muses the wife as she gazes around her bright, comfortable home. “I wanted to believe the end product would be as good as I expected, but I didn’t want to set myself up for disappointment. I kept telling myself not to expect much.

“And now it’s like, ‘Dang! I didn’t know it would come out this good,’” she chuckles happily.

Founded in 1990, Graham Builders remains the only design+build contractor in Hawaii honored by the Better Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Business Ethics. The company also employs Oahu’s first Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), a designation administered by the National Association of Home Builders.
